There’s No Bull at the 2026 Gaff-n-Go Rodeo
A rodeo is coming to the Meadow Event Park on May 15–16 — but there won’t be any bulls.
The 22nd annual Gaff-n-Go Rodeo, hosted by the Virginia, Maryland & Delaware Association of Electric Cooperatives, will highlight the skills of electric lineworkers who keep power flowing across the region. The event is free and open to the public.
Lineworkers from electric cooperatives, investor-owned utilities, municipal systems and private contractors will compete in events that reflect their daily work, including pole climbing, equipment operation and drone challenges.
More than 350 competitors participated in last year’s event, representing 12 states. Organizers expect an even larger turnout this year.
Friday’s competition begins at 10:30 a.m. with the equipment operators’ rodeo, testing teams’ ability to maneuver bucket trucks and digger derricks. Saturday’s events start at 8 a.m. and feature apprentices, journeyman teams and drone operators.
“Watching these professionals demonstrate the skill it takes to safely and reliably keep electricity flowing to the two million members we serve is impressive,” said Brian Mosier, president and CEO of the association. “This competition highlights the training required to become a lineworker and recognizes those who work around the clock in all conditions.”
The event’s name comes from the “gaff,” a metal spike attached to boots to climb wooden utility poles.
Competitors will work up to 40 feet above ground and will be judged on safety, efficiency and completion time.
Admission and parking are free. Food vendors and family-friendly activities will be available.
